Being the Blood Program Coordinator of the BMC-NVBSP, I believe that the success and failure of the program depends largely on both the commitment of the NVBSP staff and the Voluntary Blood Donors from different sectors of the community.

According to Dr. Criselda G. Abesamis, Director IV of the National Center for Health Facility Development and the Manager of the National   Voluntary Blood Services  Program, “To shift the perception of the public from paid donation to voluntary blood donation has been very difficult. It has been a battle in which the strong contender is the public itself.”

This has been the battle-cry of the NVBSP since the birth of the Republic Act 7719, otherwise known as the “National Services Act of 1994”, as the lead agency for the national blood program, the Local Government Units (LGU’s), NGO’s, and other major stakeholders of the program are equally important partners in the comprehensive and intensified campaign of this crusade in providing safe blood, thereby saving lives.

Thanks to the never-ending commitment of the Blood Bank Staff who has been in action for the past months conducting Mobile Blood   Donations and Advocacy  campaigns on Voluntary Blood Donation.

As a result, we have been implemented the “No Replacement Donor” policy in the Blood Bank and Transfusion Services since November 2008 up to the present, and continuously doing its best to intensify and enforced the 100%  voluntary blood donation much earlier than the NVBSP envisions by 2010.

And despite the “ups “ and “downs” we had been experiencing, the continued commitment and dedication of the National Voluntary Blood Services Program —Blood Bank Staff has always been there.

There is no blood transfusion if there is no blood; there will be no adequate blood supply if there are no voluntary blood donors and there are no volunteer donors if there are no hardworking and committed personnel.

The BMC-NVBSP –Blood Bank and Transfusion Service is now considered as the major source of blood units and components not only in Camarines Sur, but also to the nearby provinces in the Bicol region. We were also able to send blood units to the Philippine Blood Center for the past months especially in times of their inadequate blood stock inventory.

For 2009, this is a year of challenges, achievements and accomplishments. The NVBSP- Blood Bank and Transfusion Service aspire for support rather than recognition,   encourage rather than     distrust. We need to perform because it is our commitment to SAVE LIVES.
