PARACALE SPEARHEADS CAM. NORTE CAMPAIGN

Paracale is the first town in the province of Camarines Norte to link and establish a local blood program with the Department of Health - Bicol Medical Center.  The rich mining town started its program last July 2008 with an advocacy campaign followed by a mass blood donation conducted at the municipal sports complex.  The blood donation activity participated in by the municipal employees, rural health unit staff and some barangay officials.  One of the first donors to donate blood is the municipal mayor of the town followed by their staffs and employees.

Under the leadership of Mayor Romeo Moreno and Mun. Councilor Ricky Manarang, Kagawad on health, the municipal blood program aims to involve the barangays and LGU employees in order to provide a blood stock at Bicol Medical Center and Philippine National Red Cross – Daet.  The Mobile Blood Donation (MBD) team was composed of staffs and volunteers coming from BMC, PNRC, and municipal RHU.  A total of 24 units were collected on the first MBD activity.  A second MBD was done with the PNRC – Daet wherein 30 units were then collected and deposited.  Donors of the second MBD were mostly educational scholars of Paracale.

This year, Paracale had lined up a year-long activity involving their barangays.  The 27 barangays were grouped into clusters.  The Barangay Blood Olympics is scheduled to start this first quarter.  The municipality had allotted at least P200,000.00 for the said activity.  With the active involvement of Paracale on the blood program, other municipalities became interested and had scheduled initial meetings, advocacy campaigns and mobile blood donation activities as well. The other municipalities that signify active participation on the program are the towns of Basud, Mercedes, San Vicente, and Daet.
